It’s been a while since we’ve updated our website with what’s been happening in the band. It’s not because we’ve split up or lost interest, the opposite in fact. We’ve just been really, really busy playing weddings, functions and public shows throughout the north east and beyond.

If you’d like to stay more up to date with the happenings of a North East wedding band then why not like our Facebook Page or twitter account?

We’ve played Castles in County Durham, country houses up in Northumbeland and even at the top of the Discovery Museum in Newcastle. Each one has been a cracker and you can read the reviews on our testimonials page here!

When we haven’t been playing live we’ve been practicing hard in the rehearsal rooms working on a great new set of live music to provide the perfect soundtrack to your wedding or function. Our set list is changing all the time and can be found here.

We’ve also been down the shops and bought quite a bit of new kit. There was nothing wrong with what we had before, it’s just that we’re always striving for newer and better gear to improve our service.

Starting this Saturday we are playing the first of many Christmas Parties. So many we will probably struggle to update our news page but we’ll try.

Last Friday saw us playing just outside of Newcastle at Jesmond’s As You Like It. It’s starting to become a bit of regular haunt for us but this gig was little different as former professional boxer Ricky Hatton was in the audience. Albeit briefly, for about half an hour, when we weren’t actually playing and were having a break. Bit gutting as he’s a big Oasis fan and we thought we’d roll out some Gallagher classics but sadly it wasn’t to be. We were going to get a photo for our site to prove this story but his body guards were a bit hard looking.

We took the Saturday off as it was Phil’s brother’s engagement party in Blyth, Northumberland. He’s yet to set a date for the big date but Phil kindly offered to knock him 10% off if he pays in full at the time of booking.

This Saturday was our first gig at the magnificent Guyzance Hall in Northumberland for the wedding of Phil and Lucy. Our set went down great as did Phil’s cheese-tastic DJ set that consisted of PJ and Duncan, The Outhere Brothers and Psy.

Sunday was another first for us, the first time someone has been arrested as we’ve played and marched out by police officers. Don’t judge the venue, it took place in Bishop Auckland’s finest boozer, The Cumberland Arms and even Sue the Land Lady didn’t have a clue what the craic was. We were a bit gutted as we’d rather it had happened as played The Clash’s I Fought The Law!

This Friday see’s us back at As You Like It before a wedding on Saturday. It’s quite soon after our last gig there but they obviously can’t get enough of The Fontains at As You Like It. It’s our only public show this week so come down for 10:30.

As expected the Bank Holiday Weekend was a busy one for us. It started at Ramside Hall, County Durham where we played the wedding of Katie and Andrew. It’s the first time that we’ve had missiles thrown at us by the audience but thankfully the missiles were balloons and those doing the throwing were of a pre school age. Thankfully the rest of the crowd weren’t as hostile and even had us up for a second encore!

On Saturday we headed to Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club just outside of Hexham, Northumberland for the 40th birthday party of Jonathan. An open bar and a BBQ to rival the Gateshead TA were laid on for the guests that had travelled from throughout the UK. All that was left was for us to provide the music which we think we did a pretty good job of judging by the crowds reaction. We witnessed out first ever Jagger Off, a dance off but where only Mick Jagger-esque moves are allowed. Come midnight it was time for us to grudgingly leave despite Jonathan’s generous offer for us to stay and make the most of the free bar and food.

On Sunday we headed to Halgarth Manor, Pittingman, County Durham, a new venue for us that we were yet to play. We’d only been booked to play an hour by the Bride and Groom but we went down a treat despite the short set and early start time. Our work done we headed off and left them in the capable hands of The Wedding DJ.

Friday just gone was one of our ever fewer public appearances, this time at The Falcon in Prudhoe, Northumberland. The Pub’s layout meant that we were tucked into the far corner of the building playing across a void to the punters stood at the bar. Despite a slow start we managed to coax them from the bar, ever closer and onto the dance floor.

On Saturday we ventured out of the North East and down to York for the wedding of Kirsten and Dave at the rather nice Churchill Boutique Hotel. In the run up to the wedding the couple had requested songs by Bloc Party and Ian Brown so we knew that we were the right band for the occasion and we were pleased to say we weren’t wrong.

We’ve only got the one public show this weekend which is at The Annitsford Irish Club, Cramlington, Northumberland, on Sunday. It’s a 5pm start and the venue can get pretty busy. If you want a seat we suggest you head there now and take your camping gear, One Direction Style.

The weekend was a test of true grit with four gigs over three days. If you’re quick with the math you’ll realise that 4 does not go into three that must mean we played two gigs in one day and you’d be right Bruce Springsteen, a man known for playing far too long than he should, would be proud!

We headed to the coast on Friday where we played the wedding of Simon and Heather at The Grand Hotel in Tynemouth. We set up and sound checked with our volume controls at a modest level only for the house DJ to come and blast David Guetta so loud the vibrations could topple the cakes and scones of the high teas being eaten above us in the lounge. As usual the ceremony ran a little late so Heather and Simon agreed that we should start after the buffet which worked a treat as people were fed, watered and ready to dance. Our sets went down a treat and after we finished we retired to the lounge for a Peroni or two and left the DJ to deafen the guests (who to be fair did enjoy his set).
Saturday was the big one for us with two gigs packed into one day. Both were for NHS Fleet Services with the first taking place outdoors at their family fun day held at Gosforth Race Course, Newcastle. We shared the bill with another North East based wedding and function band, The Gatecrashers. They are top guys and you can check out their website here. We were first on with a 10:30 start. As a band it’s not often you walk on stage and greet the audience with “good morning, Gosforth”. The weather held and our sets were appreciated by the crowds sitting around on the grass, enjoying the day.

That evening we ditched the black shirts and red ties in favour of Hawaiian shirts and headed up the road to the Gosforth Park Hotel for the company’s Hawaiin beach party. VW Beetles, camper vans, surfboards, palm trees and even a steel band were just some of the props used to theme the room. We followed on stage the brilliant UK Beach Boys whose apt set got the party going, ready for us to carry it on. Tired and exhausted we left the venue at 3am, happy in the knowledge that Bruce “The Boss” Springstein would surely be proud of our four hour stint.
Sunday saw us back in Bish Vegas (Bishop Auckland, County Durham) at The Cumberland Arms. The pub was a little quieter than normal for us, why we aren’t too sure, but the people there enjoyed our sets and it was good to see some familiar faces.
We’ve got two public shows this weekend. The first is As You Like It in Jesmond, Newcastle. It’s a great venue and we are on at 10pm playing three sets till 1am. Saturday see’s us back at The Townhouse in Whitley Bay from 9pm, which was a great gig last time played there so we are hoping for the same again!
