This weekend saw us play our first wedding at the fabulous Alnwick Garden in Northumberland. The torrential rain didn’t take anything away from the marvellous setting nor did it dampen the spirits of Bride and Groom’s guests who were up for a party. Despite a leaky roof soaking Peter’s drum kit and a drunk girl trying to play his drums using a half drunk bottle of Corona as a stick the night was a success and we’d like to thank the very helpful staff at the venue!

On Saturday we left Newcastle and headed down the A19, through the smog of Teeside and onto the slightly more picturesque Runswick Bay near Whitby for the wedding of Rich and Caroline. The wedding was a marquee affair but within the grounds of the Cliffemount Hotel which overlooked the stunning Runswick Bay (check out the picture above to see what we mean) Tight space in the marquee meant we didn’t get set up till late but we were well received. Over enthusiastic dancing to The Jam’s Going Undergrond by one of the guests almost brought our night to a premature end when they fell into the band but luckily only a guitar lead was damaged and with the aid of the spare we were able to see out the night.

On Sunday we were back at The Annitsford Irish Club in Cramlington, Northumberland, quite possibly the smallest club in the country. The place was packed (it doesn’t take much) and we had an absolute blast. Just the end we needed to a long weekend.

Next weekend it’s all about the public gigs with Friday at Hartlepool’s Pearl Bar and Saturday back in The ‘Ford but this time at The Bridge. Hope to see you out.

As expected the Bank Holiday Weekend was a busy one for us. It started at Ramside Hall, County Durham where we played the wedding of Katie and Andrew. It’s the first time that we’ve had missiles thrown at us by the audience but thankfully the missiles were balloons and those doing the throwing were of a pre school age. Thankfully the rest of the crowd weren’t as hostile and even had us up for a second encore!

On Saturday we headed to Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club just outside of Hexham, Northumberland for the 40th birthday party of Jonathan. An open bar and a BBQ to rival the Gateshead TA were laid on for the guests that had travelled from throughout the UK. All that was left was for us to provide the music which we think we did a pretty good job of judging by the crowds reaction. We witnessed out first ever Jagger Off, a dance off but where only Mick Jagger-esque moves are allowed. Come midnight it was time for us to grudgingly leave despite Jonathan’s generous offer for us to stay and make the most of the free bar and food.

On Sunday we headed to Halgarth Manor, Pittingman, County Durham, a new venue for us that we were yet to play. We’d only been booked to play an hour by the Bride and Groom but we went down a treat despite the short set and early start time. Our work done we headed off and left them in the capable hands of The Wedding DJ.

Friday just gone was one of our ever fewer public appearances, this time at The Falcon in Prudhoe, Northumberland. The Pub’s layout meant that we were tucked into the far corner of the building playing across a void to the punters stood at the bar. Despite a slow start we managed to coax them from the bar, ever closer and onto the dance floor.

On Saturday we ventured out of the North East and down to York for the wedding of Kirsten and Dave at the rather nice Churchill Boutique Hotel. In the run up to the wedding the couple had requested songs by Bloc Party and Ian Brown so we knew that we were the right band for the occasion and we were pleased to say we weren’t wrong.

We’ve only got the one public show this weekend which is at The Annitsford Irish Club, Cramlington, Northumberland, on Sunday. It’s a 5pm start and the venue can get pretty busy. If you want a seat we suggest you head there now and take your camping gear, One Direction Style.

The arrival of spring also means the arrival of the wedding season and the Easter bank holiday weekend saw us playing two weddings. The first was at As You Like It in Jesmond, a venue we can’t seem to escape from but we don’t mind as it’s a pretty cool place and we normally have a good time there. Thursday was no different and we were glad to be playing the wedding of Abbie and Les. Guests dancing in the first set and chocolate wedding cake are both good in our book!

Saturday night played host to one of the most bonkers wedding we’ve seen. We traveled to Ellingham Hall, situated in the village of Ellingham, Northumberland. On arrival one of the staff informed us that a large part of the wedding party were Royal Marines and if last nights alcohol infused hot tub streaking was anything to go by then we were in for a rowdy night. His predictions were correct and we spent the night providing the soundtrack to one of the wildest parties we’ve witnessed. The midnight curfew quickly came and only when the power to the main hall was cut by the staff did the party roll out of the hall and into the rest of the house.

Sunday saw us back in the village of Annitsford, this time at The Irish Club or as it’s known locally; The Ranch. Admittedly it doesn’t take much to fill this small venue but that wont stop us boasting that the place was jam packed! We were worried that we wouldn’t pull a crowd having played the village just two weeks earlier but we were pleased to see the Annitsford massive out in force! Thanks to everyone that came along.

When you regularly play amazing weddings for really sound people at some of the North East’s best venues it’s sometimes hard to impressed by a Saturday night pub gig. However, the people of Annitsford blew us away as usual when we played The Bridge. The place was rammed and everyone up for a great night. It broke our hearts to turn down so may offers of drinks but we were all driving that night and Phil’s a bad enough driver sober let alone hammered! A big thanks to everyone there, it’s great to see the same faces coming back and must mean that we are doing something right. Thanks also to the management and the staff ! Hope to see you all soon!
