As wedding season winds down we find ourselves playing more and more public shows. On Friday the 13th we headed down to Pearl Bar in Hartlepool’s Best Western Hotel. We’ve played several gigs there over the years but with our new sound desk and its ability to sound check using an I Pad we got our best sound yet and went down a treat!

Saturday saw us back at The Bridge in Annitsford, a small village just outside of Cramlington, Northumberland where randomly we have a really good following. Luckily everyone turned out and the gig didn’t disappoint although we were a little disappointed not to see any moves from local legend, The Dudley Dancer. He’d been out the night before and feeling rough from it left early having not thrown a single shape! We hope it was down to his hangover and not our playing!

This Friday saw us a back at Mr. Lynch a once regular haunt we hadn’t visited since spring (too many weddings) It was good to be back although the lack of students and more importantly their loans meant it was a quiet night by Mr. Lynch standards. We are back there on the 25th of next month. Hopefully the loans will have cleared by then!

On Saturday we played for one of our good friends and his partner at their wedding at Dissington Hall just outside Ponteland. We were only on for an hour much to the relief of our front man Phil who was also on Best Man Duties that day and well-oiled by the time we came to play. Despite that we were well received by the guests which was to be expected given the amount of friends and family in the audience!

This Friday we are back at As You Like It in Jesmond, five minutes outside Newcastle. Our diary for 2014 is getting busier and busier so if you’re considering us for your wedding, function, party, then why not come down, have a drink and check us out. If you do make sure you say hi!

This weekend saw us play our first wedding at the fabulous Alnwick Garden in Northumberland. The torrential rain didn’t take anything away from the marvellous setting nor did it dampen the spirits of Bride and Groom’s guests who were up for a party. Despite a leaky roof soaking Peter’s drum kit and a drunk girl trying to play his drums using a half drunk bottle of Corona as a stick the night was a success and we’d like to thank the very helpful staff at the venue!

On Saturday we left Newcastle and headed down the A19, through the smog of Teeside and onto the slightly more picturesque Runswick Bay near Whitby for the wedding of Rich and Caroline. The wedding was a marquee affair but within the grounds of the Cliffemount Hotel which overlooked the stunning Runswick Bay (check out the picture above to see what we mean) Tight space in the marquee meant we didn’t get set up till late but we were well received. Over enthusiastic dancing to The Jam’s Going Undergrond by one of the guests almost brought our night to a premature end when they fell into the band but luckily only a guitar lead was damaged and with the aid of the spare we were able to see out the night.

On Sunday we were back at The Annitsford Irish Club in Cramlington, Northumberland, quite possibly the smallest club in the country. The place was packed (it doesn’t take much) and we had an absolute blast. Just the end we needed to a long weekend.

Next weekend it’s all about the public gigs with Friday at Hartlepool’s Pearl Bar and Saturday back in The ‘Ford but this time at The Bridge. Hope to see you out.

As expected the Bank Holiday Weekend was a busy one for us. It started at Ramside Hall, County Durham where we played the wedding of Katie and Andrew. It’s the first time that we’ve had missiles thrown at us by the audience but thankfully the missiles were balloons and those doing the throwing were of a pre school age. Thankfully the rest of the crowd weren’t as hostile and even had us up for a second encore!

On Saturday we headed to Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club just outside of Hexham, Northumberland for the 40th birthday party of Jonathan. An open bar and a BBQ to rival the Gateshead TA were laid on for the guests that had travelled from throughout the UK. All that was left was for us to provide the music which we think we did a pretty good job of judging by the crowds reaction. We witnessed out first ever Jagger Off, a dance off but where only Mick Jagger-esque moves are allowed. Come midnight it was time for us to grudgingly leave despite Jonathan’s generous offer for us to stay and make the most of the free bar and food.

On Sunday we headed to Halgarth Manor, Pittingman, County Durham, a new venue for us that we were yet to play. We’d only been booked to play an hour by the Bride and Groom but we went down a treat despite the short set and early start time. Our work done we headed off and left them in the capable hands of The Wedding DJ.

Friday just gone was one of our ever fewer public appearances, this time at The Falcon in Prudhoe, Northumberland. The Pub’s layout meant that we were tucked into the far corner of the building playing across a void to the punters stood at the bar. Despite a slow start we managed to coax them from the bar, ever closer and onto the dance floor.

On Saturday we ventured out of the North East and down to York for the wedding of Kirsten and Dave at the rather nice Churchill Boutique Hotel. In the run up to the wedding the couple had requested songs by Bloc Party and Ian Brown so we knew that we were the right band for the occasion and we were pleased to say we weren’t wrong.

We’ve only got the one public show this weekend which is at The Annitsford Irish Club, Cramlington, Northumberland, on Sunday. It’s a 5pm start and the venue can get pretty busy. If you want a seat we suggest you head there now and take your camping gear, One Direction Style.

After a manic May Bank Holiday we treated ourselves to a rare weekend off. Peter tended to his garden, Phil went rambling with his walking group and Anth spent the weekend building Airfix models.

It wasn’t long before we were back to band duties. On Tuesday we took over the bottom floor of As You Like It in Jesmond to shoot a promotional video for the website. As You Like It’s Frangipani makes for a great backdrop that we’d used once before for a photo shoot. We decided to use it again for a promotional video that should soon be on the site.

On Thursday night we headed to the Baltic for the AMV Live Music Battle of The Wedding Bands Showcase. We are always happy to play these showcase events when the company is as helpful and professional as AMV and the surroundings as stunning as The Baltic, Gateshead.

Friday had us back on the pub scene, this time at The Station Killingworth. We’ve been playing the venue for almost three years now and always go down well. Saturday was another local gig, this time a Marquee wedding at The Three Horse Shoes near Cramlington, Northumberland. The weather was perfect and the marquee was packed with hundreds of guests loving our set. Special mention to our guests singers. One great, one not so great!
Finally, Sunday, a day of internal conflict. We grudgingly headed to The Stadium of Light for the wedding of Ben and Alana Devlin, hosted in the River View Suit overlooking the Wear. It pains us to say it but the venue was really nice, the staff sound and the buffet wasn’t just a trough full of cheesy chips. Joking aside, all the best to the happy couple!

If you find yourself at a loose end this Friday then get yourself down to Jesmond for our first ever gig at As You Like It! We are on at half ten and hope to see you there. Click this link for the Facebook events page. Come and do something shameful and we’ll write all about it on here.
